The big flood that hit East Coast Malaysia in 2014 had a record number of 232,913 displaced populations registered in various evacuation centers and left thousands more homeless. This resettlement master plan and development was prepared by in collaboration with MERCY Malaysia.

The planning and design proposals were developed upon consultation with various stakeholders, which its process also include workshop held on March 5, 2015 in Kuala Krai, Kelantan. Outputs from the workshop were the result of synthesized inputs from various participants (local government and authorities, working agencies, planners and architects, researchers, implementing agencies, academicians, etc.).

The team’s participation in the World Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction in Sendai, Japan, which lead to the declaration of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 also played important role in the process of preparing this master plan. Best practices from around the world were studied and analyzed before being put into context in formulating the most suitable planning and design scheme for this initiative.
